Dabob WA
Dabob Bay
Start Time: 8:15 PM
Finish Time: 10:30 PM
Temp: Mid to Low 30's
Low Tide: -2.5
Participants: Brent Vadopalas, Steven Roberts, Claire Olson, Hannah Wear, Sam White, L. Christine Savolainen, and Jake Heare.
Upon reaching the field site, we hiked out to the sample site. Brent, Steven, and Hannah reached the site first and began bringing trays from the water to the "dry" staging area. All participants were issued a gear bag with : Notebook, pens, sharpie, clicker counter, and headlamp. After all trays were brought up from the water, they were opened.
Upon opening trays, tile labels were determined. Jake handed out prelabelled, "dead" oyster sample bags to collect all the mortalities from each tray. After mortalities were collected, each tray then had all live animals counted. In the mean time, new tray labels created from Waterproof paper with tray labels were parafilm sealed into falcon tubes and placed into the according tray. After all live animals were counted, as well as all predators counted, the decision was made to collect 10 live animals per tray due to the apparent 50% mortality event. Again pre labelled ziploc bags were handed out to each volunteer and the sample was collected. At the same time, the hobo logger was collected and replaced with a new one to monitor temperature over the coming months. Once live samples were collected they were transferred to an ice chest and stored at 4 C until they could be processed on 1/31/2014.
